US Senator wants disclosure on Outsourced Calls

A Challenge to International Call Centers. A new bill would make companies tell customers when calls are transferred out of the U.S.

My first work was in a call center as a technical support. Whenever I was asked "Where are you located?", I actually have a pre defined scripted answer... "Due to security reason, we are not allowed to divulge that information". Back then, the reason I know why we are not allowed to tell customers that we are located in the Philippines is because the bosses still want the callers to think that their call was being picked up by someone from US customer service. Call center was still starting then... and American companies still dont want their customers to know that they route their call overseas. As agents, we are also given American accent trainings to make us sound more convincing. That is where I learned to say words from "-tion" to "-shen" where "in-ter-net konneksyon" became "innernet conn-neck-shen". Hahaha!...

Then today, I read from a Yahoo! article that Chuck Schumer, a senator from New York wants U.S. companies to disclose all outsourced calls and tell customers where their calls are being routed. He said he will push legislation to reduce companies outsourcing and bring back outsourced jobs to the US.

If this will happen, will companies pull-out their outsourced jobs from Philippines? Nakow!... marami rami ding Pilipino ang mawawalan ng trabaho kung ganun? Aside from that, most fresh graduates now a days are into call center.
NEW YORK (Reuters) – In a bid to reduce outsourcing of U.S. jobs, a Democratic senator said on Sunday he will push legislation to make companies inform customers when their calls were being transferred outside the United States and charge companies for those transferred calls.
"This bill will not only serve to maintain call center jobs currently in the United States, but also provide a reason for companies that have already outsourced jobs to bring them back," Senator Charles Schumer said in statement.
Customers calling 800 numbers are often transferred overseas, and in such cases the bill would mandate that callers be told where their calls were rerouted.
Companies would also be required to certify to the Federal Trade Commission annually that they were complying with the requirement, and face penalties if they did not certify.
Schumer's bill would also impose a $0.25 excise tax on any customer service call placed inside the United States which is transferred to an agent in a foreign location. The fee would be assessed on the company that transferred the call.
Customer service call centers have become increasingly popular with businesses in recent years to deal with questions ranging from billing to technical support.
But the practice brings frequent complaints from customers who say their issues are not resolved or that representatives are merely providing scripted responses.
Schumer said the most popular countries for outsourcing of U.S. call centers included India, Indonesia, Ireland, the Philippines and South Africa, places where workers generally receive lower wages and work longer hours than their U.S. counterparts.  - soure. Yahoo! News

Eye Glasses makes me Look Lola-ish!!!

I love the details on this glasses! So Kikay!
I really need to wear my eye-glasses more often these days. I have been having really blurred views and I'm worried. Since high school pa, I have astigmatism na. And wearing eye-glasses should have corrected it. But since isa akong pasaway and thinks that wearing glasses makes me look soooo lola-ish, I refused to wear them. Having infront of the computer all day, I had to wear them at work.

Good thing, during the annual physical exam at work, HR invited Ideal Vision to check up on our eyes. They also allowed us to get glasses and pay staggard through salary deduction. Suuuuweeet!! I bought my previous GAP glasses from Ideal Vision for Php3,400.00 cash and I chipped it!! Now I got a new spanking Baby Phat glasses for only 850 per payday. Cool!....

My Newly Formatted Food Blog

I have recently bought another domain for the permanent residence of my Food Blog. It is now a collaborative work between me and my bestfriend-sis Mae since both of us are foodies. Please visit www.FoodieThought.com for your daily fix of food cravings.

The web blog used to look like this under ReyaneFoodHaven. But I like the new lay-out more. It's simple and more eye candy don't you think?

Together with the new lay-out for my food blog, I also uploaded a new template for this blog. I got tired of the dark template with the sunset banner and am now into this cutesy kikay theme. Let me know if you like it or not by answering the poll on the right. Thanks!

Think Good... Say Good... Feel Good!

Ever had a bad day? Maybe you need to start chanting daily affirmation like the kid below.... soo cute! ^_^

"My whole house is great!... I can do anything good!... "

What are love handles and why are they called that?

Today, while looking at my "bilbil", I came upon a very intelligent question.

What are love handles and what are they for? If they are called "love handles" why does nobody want them? So I googled it and found their answers.

• Answerer 1
When you are being ridden or you are doing the riding during love making they can be grabbed on to for extra support.

• Answerer 2
Cuz, it gives your SO something to grab onto, either as a form of flirting, and to grab during love making, and/or passion, or to grab to get your attention for something, and sometimes to tease romantically.

• Answerer 3
For the same reason your ears are as well. Think about it... ^___^

Ganun pala yun? Eto ba love handles din??? Pathetic!.... nyahahaha...

Spartacus: Blood and Sand (2010)

Apologies for the lack of update in my blog. I've been too busy with alot lately along with jetlag from a recent out of the country trip. I'll try to update as much as possible within the next days.
This weekend, I spent my idle time watching Spartacus. Spartacus is not a movie but a television series premiered last January 22, 2010 in Starz a US channel. I never knew such series exist till an officemate introduced it to me.
(Lucy Lawless as Lucretia a.k.a  Domina)
Anyways, Spartacus is a Thracean betrayed by a Roman Legatus (a general). His wife was sold to slavery and later killed, Spartacus seeks for revenge in the arena of the gladiators and leading the gladiators revolt against the Roman empire. Oh how I love history and greek and roman myths.

I tell you this tv series is not for the faint of heart. There are alot of blood, nudity, foul languange, sex and violence. Almost all the men are in loin cloths and the women are always naked. Cross the movie Gladiators with the movie 300, expand the storyline into a series and this is what you will get.

I actually finished season 1 (13 episodes) in one seating. I promised you will not get bored with this series. Just a note, Watch out for episode 9. I can't wait to see the next season.

Happiness is your choice

Don't let your happiness be held hostage. It is always yours to choose, to live, to experience.

You don't need anyone else's permission to be happy. Your life is magnificent not because someone says it is, but because you choose to see it as such.

If you're unhappy, that's not someone else's fault. Take full responsibility for your own unhappiness, and you instantly gain the ability to create your own happiness.

Every day, you fulfill your most sincere expectations. Expect to be happy, and just like that, you are.

Stop seeking in vain to arrange circumstances that will make you happy. Simply choose to be happy, and your circumstances start to line up around that happiness.

Your happiness is your choice. Choose it any time you wish.
