What is the Difference between a Browser and a Search Engine?

A web browser is a software application for retrieving, presenting, and traversing information resources on the World Wide Web. Although browsers primarily intended to access the World Wide Web, they can also be used to access information provided by web servers in private networks or content in file systems.
The major web browsers in order of usage according to Net Applications are Windows Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Google Chrome, and Opera.Mozilla Firefox Browser vs. Windows Internet Explorer
A Web search engine is a tool designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. The search results are usually presented in a list and are commonly called hits. The information may consist of web pages, images, information and other types of files. Some search engines also mine data available in databases or open directories. Unlike Web directories, which are maintained by human editors, search engines operate algorithmically or are a mixture of algorithmic and human input. The popular search engines are Google, Yahoo!, MSN Search, and the new Bing. In China, the most popular search engine is Baidu.
