Email Etiquette for the Super-Busy

Sharin' some email work etiquettes…..

Email Etiquette for the Super-Busy

1.    Use expressive and compelling subject lines.
The subject line is a key place to indicate importance and time sensitivity. Use leaders like “FOR APPROVAL:” or “SCHEDULING REQUEST:” or “FYI:” to indicate what action is or is not needed. It's useful to think of subject lines like newspaper (or blog) headlines – they should be expressive and compelling.

2.    Be concise.
Strive to keep emails to one line or less. If they can’t be that short, keep them as concise as possible. Your contact is just as likely to be checking the message on a Smartphone as on a desktop computer, and shorter is easier to digest.

3.    Include deadlines.
Some people think that handing out deadlines can seem dictatorial. On the contrary, successful busy people welcome a deadline. It helps them integrate the tasks into their schedule. If a response is imperative, politely include a deadline. If a response is optional, communicate that as well: “If I don’t hear back from you by 1/18, I’ll proceed with the solution I’ve proposed.”

Xend Express Courier - Review

I have a MyXend account with Xend Business Solutions Inc. since 2009 but it was my first time last Wednesday that I created an online WAYBILL and scheduled a pickup. I used to ship thru LBC but has now preferred Xend. MyXend site is very user/seller friendly and can allow my customers to track packages instantly. Xend also has an app for sellers that we can add to our websites so customesr can track their package directly from your E-stores.

I also like their Xend Badge that is HTML based and can be posted to E-shop website which serves as a bragging badge that shows how many successful deliveries were already processed. For customers this can be a way to check if an online shop is legit.

I had to run an errand that day and left my item with someone along with the waybill and payment for shipping charge. The rider picked up within the day though, notified me and was polite to apologize for the delay.

Was I happy with my first shipping experience with MyXend? Let's say I waited for some hours but since MyXend site did not guarantee on time pick for the timeframe I indicated in the site, I did not expect much.

When I came back the item was picked-up, I have a copy of 1 of 4 of the waybills, an official receipt of how much the SF was and a supply of pouches for my next shipping. Yes, I am contented with the service....

and nope.... this review is not sponsored by Xend. I just wanted to write and share again something awesome. ^_^   Till our next transaction Xend and God bless!

Things to Remember when Setting Up an Online Business

More and more businesses are going online especially buy and sell transactions. Internet is an avenue wherein you can earn money from scratch. So why not take advantage of the global opportunity for you to introduce your products to the rest of the world at the comfort of your home?
Online business and marketing is the trend these days. Get yourself involved in the fast paced buying and selling business online. Anyone can set up their enterprise virtually without additional expense. However, do not rush your business venture. These are some tips to help you getting into setting up the business of your choice:
All an entrepreneur needs are fast and reliable Internet connection, a free personal web site with the help of multiply.com or any other blog sites, a digital camera for capturing your items to be sold, and some time to update your web site often and to answer the queries of the potential buyers.
Links are very important. It generates more traffic to web sites than the traditional search engine. Online business is like networking. Spread the word through your friends so they will check your site. Add them if you can so they will be updated with your new products and services.
accessories.jpgHave a unique domain name yet connected with the kind of business you are into so people could remember your site easily. In effect, they would likely visit it.
Online business is just like blogging. You inform everyone that you have a range of products to offer to prospective clients, how much is it, what sizes are available if it is a shoe or apparel business, and how can they place their order or reach you.
Know your clients - their wants and lifestyle. Sometimes, the reason why a business venture fails is because the products offered are irrelevant to the customer's lifestyle. From there, you can gain an insight on what kind of product to sell. Do they love athletic shoes? Are my clients into clothes and accessories? What kind of clothes do they want? Why not have an online poll so you would know their preferences.

Email Etiquette 101: Seting the Tone In an E-Mail

I found some helpful tips today for office people like me. Sharing them with you.

Set the Tone In E-Mail: How You Say It Is As Important As What You Say

Tone is the quality in your writing that reveals your attitude toward your topic and reader. Tone comes from your  choice of words, the structure of your sentences, and the order of the information you present.

Most e-mail writers don't review their messages as carefully as they should. When they do review messages before sending, they're looking at the content, not the tone.

The best advice in setting the tone for your business e-mail is to write in a tone that is closest to the way you would speak to your reader in person. Here’s a tip to get you started.

Choose an appropriate greeting and closing
§ The greeting in your e-mail establishes your relationship to your reader. Most writers of business e-mail begin their messages with “Hi” or “Hello” followed by the recipient's first name. Some writers begin the message with the first name only. “Dear” is still an acceptable greeting in e-mail.

§ Use the group name in the greeting if you're writing a message to a group. Don't begin your message with “Hi, guys” or “Everybody.” Though these casual greetings may sound friendly, they are actually vague. Try “Dear Leadership Team” or “Hello, Interns.” A more specific greeting sets a focused tone to the message.

§ Write a closing for your message. Besides making it easier for your reader to find the end of the message, the closing seals the tone and serves as a final reminder of the main point or requested outcome. Try an action-oriented closing such as “I'll call you on Tuesday to schedule the meeting.” Or go for a gracious closing: “Thanks for your help,” or “I look forward to meeting you.”

10 Practical Tips For Overseas Filipino Workers

Trabaho Ba Kamo knows how much you value your precious earnings from working abroad. You have sacrificed so much just so that you can provide for your family and give them a bright future. Don't you dream that someday you do not have to leave them and work several thousand miles away? You can make this dream come true if you follow some practical tips and learn how to use your hard-earned money well.

Make an extra effort to save.
Set aside money that you need to save yourself. Your spouse may be putting part of the money that you send in a bank but aside from that, it's wiser to be doing the saving yourself. What do you do with it? The money that you save will be your investment. You cannot stop working as an OFW unless you have a fallback, and that fallback is your business. It would be unwise to start a business on borrowed capital because interest rates could be very constricting.

Prioritize.
Many migrant workers develop a hang-up for buying things for themselves. Again, it's very important to save rather than let your money go to waste on losing propositions (things that cannot be used as investments).

Set a target date for putting up your business.
It is not enough to dream. You should have a solid and realistic plan on how to make your dream come true. If you need 5 years to accumulate the amount of capital that you need for your business, then start creating your 5-year plan. Take the time to compute. Project how long it will take for you to save a part of your earnings to put up your capital.

Choose your business wisely.
Just because you have money doesn't mean that you should invest all of it in any business. Don't be impulsive. Do your research and learn everything you could before shelling out money.

Thoughts to Ponder About Priorities

I was asked today by someone if I live na in the US.... I answered no and asked her what made her think I am. She said because parang lage daw ako nasa US.. I told her that was just trainings. She asked me again why not mag apply daw ako and dun na mag work. I said, if an opportunity knocks, why not! But right now, it is not in my priority. I am happy here in the Philippines where I am with my family and dogs. My hubby working abroad is quite enough. If only theres a choice, I'd begged my husband to be here na lang and stay but sayang ang work and kita nya.

Besides, hindi din naman ganun kadali mag work abroad. Some people will think masarap ang buhay sa ibang bansa but I can say it is not! Mahirap ang buhay sa ibang bansa. One is lucky if they'd found work in the US because it is a democratic and free country. But think about what is happening now in Egypt. Paano na ang mga Pilipinong na trap sa gulo dun ngayon? How about our Middle East OFWs? We don't know gaano ang hirap nila na dinaranas for dollars na kikitain while away from their families.

I do think na although sige ang pagtaas ng mga bilihin sa Pinas at paglubog ng ekonomiya, kung magsisipag lang at magtutulungan, I still think I can raise a good family in the Philippines. At this point in my life, I believe family is more important than money.

How about you? What are your priorities in life right now? Whether it be Love, Friendship, Work, Family, Health or Money, please do let me know and share it in the comment box below.

How Clutter Free is your Desktop?

I am such an OC!.... I want everything in it's rightful place. Pati sa computer desktop ko, naging ganito na ko ka OC. I like staring at my work laptop and not seeing alot of files scattered in the desktop. There are only 3 icons, a Recycle Bin, the TEMP folder where I keep the files that I need to work on for the week and the URGENT folder where I keep the files and projects that I need to work and finish immediately. I also have google apps that let's me see the status and performance of my computer, a calendar, a weather app, and direct links to MS Office and common drives. Money Saving Tips

When life gives you lemons..... make grape juice. Then sit back and watch the world try to figure out how the f*ck you did it.
I have to confess something. I have been having some financial woes lately. I am quite problematic due to credit card debts and loans. Aside from that, the person I share my apartment with resigned from his work and went in-between jobs for more than a month. This left me shouldering alone the monthly rent and home utility expenses. I am quite stuck and hanging by a few amounts in my savings. I am really trying to cope up right now and finding a way to make my way back to financial independence. For more than a month now I am constantly regulating all my expenses by making a monthly expense tracker and living the life of frugality. I learned to take packed lunches to work and save half of my weekly budget. Then for transportation expenses to work, I quit riding cabs and took the most economical transport mode. I also gave up on weekly dining out and watching movies instead I watch movies online or shared from friends. I also implement a "no-spending" day for the week. Hopefully, by following these simple money saving tips I can get back on track.

1. Don't buy new electronic gadgets just because your friends have the latest and greatest. If your old cellphone still works, keep using it.

2. Try to go an entire weekend without eating out, shopping or buying something either personal or online. Instead make your meals at home and go for walks.

3. Eat at a newly opened restaurant. You will likely get more discounts and specials and have a chance to try something new.

4. Pay your credit card debt on time each month to avoid late charges.

5. Learn how to cook, so you can make your own meals at home and not have to spend money on eating out all the time.

6. Put your cash windfalls or bonus money immediately into your savings account to maximize the interest.

7. Download movies or borrow DVDs from the neighbors or friends instead of going out to the movies.

8. Save water by spending just enough time in the shower to be clean and don't run water when you are shaving or brushing your teeth.

9. If you can bike or walk to work or school do so. It can save you a lot of money on gas and help you get in good shape too.

10. Make sure your freezer is full. An empty freezer requires more energy to keep cold.

11. If possible, live in an area with cheaper cost of living.

12. Turn off your TV, bedroom light and computer when not in use. Also unplug appliances when not in use to avoid "vampire" electricity. Even if turned off, plugged electronic devices still eats up power.

13. Buy store brand products whenever you can. Most of the time, they are just as good as the leading brand and are much cheaper.

14. Use cash instead of credit card to make big purchases. This will make you think twice about that purchase. Plus you can never overspend.

15. When you are shopping in the store, look for items in the lower shelves for better deals. Eye-level items are often more expensive.

16. If you don't watch that much TV, don't sign up for cable. Stick with your local channels and still get all the news you need.

17. Give up expensive habits such at cigarettes, alcohol, shopping as a therapy and dining out with family during paydays. It's both economical and healthy.

18. When eating out, divide entrees in half and save the rest for a second meal.

19. Make meals that are left-over friendly, like soups and casseroles.

20. Switch to CFL (compact flourescent light) lighting inside and solar lighting outside. You will be amazed how much energy you save.

21. Never buy anything on impulse, even if the item is on sale. If you don't really need it, just walk away.

22. Add water to your dishwashing soap to get more uses.

23. Only withdraw money from ATM machines approved by your bank in order to avoid unnecessary fees.

24. Do free things regularly such as hiking, walking in a park of going to the beach.

25. Check out your local thrift store and garage sales for furniture, garden supplies, clothes and other items.

26. Pick up fun and cheap hobbies like reading, gardening, cooking or blogging.

27. Limit your use of disposable things. For example, dry your dishes with a dishtowel instead of paper towels.

28. Borrow books from a public or school libary instead of buying them. Make sure to return them on time to avoid late charges.

29. Don't go grocery shopping when you're hungry. You tend to buy more things that you don't need on an empty stomach. And always bring a grocery list and follow that list no matter what items are on sale.

30. Go green. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle as often as possible.

31. Simplify your beauty and hygiene products. Only buy essential items such as soap, shampoo, conditioner and deodorant.

32. Go to a farmers market for fresh and in-season produce. You can save money and at the same time support your local farmers.

33. Limit your eating out to special occasions only (e.g. Birthdays, Anniversaries)

34. Buy clothes that are easy to coordinate. This way, you can mix and match them and won't need to buy as many clothes.

35. Learn how to fix things around your house, so you don't have to pay an expert each time something breaks.

US Senator wants disclosure on Outsourced Calls

A Challenge to International Call Centers. A new bill would make companies tell customers when calls are transferred out of the U.S.

My first work was in a call center as a technical support. Whenever I was asked "Where are you located?", I actually have a pre defined scripted answer... "Due to security reason, we are not allowed to divulge that information". Back then, the reason I know why we are not allowed to tell customers that we are located in the Philippines is because the bosses still want the callers to think that their call was being picked up by someone from US customer service. Call center was still starting then... and American companies still dont want their customers to know that they route their call overseas. As agents, we are also given American accent trainings to make us sound more convincing. That is where I learned to say words from "-tion" to "-shen" where "in-ter-net konneksyon" became "innernet conn-neck-shen". Hahaha!...

Then today, I read from a Yahoo! article that Chuck Schumer, a senator from New York wants U.S. companies to disclose all outsourced calls and tell customers where their calls are being routed. He said he will push legislation to reduce companies outsourcing and bring back outsourced jobs to the US.

If this will happen, will companies pull-out their outsourced jobs from Philippines? Nakow!... marami rami ding Pilipino ang mawawalan ng trabaho kung ganun? Aside from that, most fresh graduates now a days are into call center.
NEW YORK (Reuters) – In a bid to reduce outsourcing of U.S. jobs, a Democratic senator said on Sunday he will push legislation to make companies inform customers when their calls were being transferred outside the United States and charge companies for those transferred calls.
"This bill will not only serve to maintain call center jobs currently in the United States, but also provide a reason for companies that have already outsourced jobs to bring them back," Senator Charles Schumer said in statement.
Customers calling 800 numbers are often transferred overseas, and in such cases the bill would mandate that callers be told where their calls were rerouted.
Companies would also be required to certify to the Federal Trade Commission annually that they were complying with the requirement, and face penalties if they did not certify.
Schumer's bill would also impose a $0.25 excise tax on any customer service call placed inside the United States which is transferred to an agent in a foreign location. The fee would be assessed on the company that transferred the call.
Customer service call centers have become increasingly popular with businesses in recent years to deal with questions ranging from billing to technical support.
But the practice brings frequent complaints from customers who say their issues are not resolved or that representatives are merely providing scripted responses.
Schumer said the most popular countries for outsourcing of U.S. call centers included India, Indonesia, Ireland, the Philippines and South Africa, places where workers generally receive lower wages and work longer hours than their U.S. counterparts.  - soure. Yahoo! News

Buhay Call Center - The Truth

Below is an article at abs-cbsnews.com about their feature in The Correspondents about call centers and their employees a couple of years ago. I wanted to post this again to spread awareness for most of the graduates today who would like to apply for a call center job.

Sad to say, The producers who conceptualized the said episode was not able to capture the truth behind call centers and their employees.

magaan na trabaho easy work-- this is a misconception that a lot of people have about call centers. this is work, serious work and not playtime. as call center agents we are the frontliners of some of the biggest companies around the world. we handle their first line of defense for their businnes, Customer Service. we Filipinos who work in call centers represent these companies to their consumers and we filipinos can spell the success or downfall of these business just on how we deal with their consumers 24/7 and that is not an easy task. the reason why call centers thrive in the philippines is because filipinos have good customer service skills. we are professional workers and we give everything a 100%. i salute all the call center employees who make this feat possible. it means jobs and job security to the filipinos who wanted to work in their own country.

no age limit -- because call centers are equal opportunity employers. they do not set limitations to people's ability to work. it is only here in the philippines where we put an age limit to applications. it really does not matter what age the applicant is as long as they can still deliver quality performance. it is called diversity.

hindi rin kailangang college graduate not necessarily college grad- for cheap call centers maybe, not for the big ones. we encourage our applicants to finish college first before applying. they may also be assisted through schedule requests if they want to continue studying while still employed.

Ang tanging requirement, ganda ng boses at galing sa pagsasalita the only requirement is the voice quality -- for radio stations yes. not for call center. we are not DJs. we also require high IQ and intelligence in call centers. For example, Wil Ison, the 24 yo manager who was featured in The Correpondents. You did not even applaude him for reaching that position in such a young age. if he was employed in a bank, he will only become a manager if he kissed enough bossess ass or because he is already 50 years old. People like Wil were promoted because they are good employees. Most of the call centers have internal application processes that enables the employees to apply for higher position highliting their performance and capabilities and not who their friends are and whose ass they just wiped.

'Ika nga ng iba, "in" ka kapag nasa call center ka. You are "IN" if you are a call center agent- this is not a fad. we are working, we pay our taxes, we are productive citizens of this country. we chose to stay and earn here in our own country rather than go abroad and contribute to the brain drain. we earn a lot beacuse we work hard. we are thankful for the good education we were provided by our parents that gave us the competencies we have now. we are working for multinational companies and we get promoted. most of us 21-30 years old and we are managers, supervisors and senior managers.

we may not be doctors or lawyers but at least we are not corrupt. we are productive and we make sure that our families and our future families will not be included with the uneducated, paid rallyists in EDSA, who do not even understand why they are there. we are not a burden to the government, they should even be thankful because it is our tax, the middle class tax, that makes it possible for the Philippines to stay alive.

instead of potraying us as obese, smoking insomiacs....why not thank us? applaude our achievements, be proud that we are very good with what we do that's why investors come in to the philippines. ask the government to provide security to the employees who have different schedules from the normal 9-5 workers? ask them to take care of us and in return we will work harder, show the companies that it is worth investing in the philippines, we will continue to pay our taxes and slowly but surely help our country progress.

Project X

Hi friends! I am currently embarking on a new personal and financial project which I have set to announce next month.

Since last year, I have been thinking of it but I am not sure how to start. I have currently laid out the first touch and is still in the process of learning the tricks and trade needed for this project to succeed.

Hopefully this project becomes a hit so that eventually I can start my bigger and much dreamed Project 11.

goal setting Pictures, Images and Photos
